The Castillo de Loarre is considered the best-preserved Romanesque fortress in Europe. The castle was built for military purposes by King Sancho III the Great on the foundations of a Roman settlement called Calagurris Fibularia. In more modern times, it has been the setting for films and series such as Kingdom of Heaven (starring Orlando Bloom) and La noche oscura (by Carlos Saura).

Gaztelugatxeko Doniene
Bizkaya, España
Originally 9th (?) century
San Juan de Gaztelugatxe served as the backdrop for Dragonstone, the ancestral seat of House Targaryen, in season 7 of Game of Thrones. The striking rocky island with its 241 steps became world famous through the series as the place where Daenerys returned. The castle on the island was added using computer animation; in reality, there is a small church there.
It is believed that the original chapel dates back to the 9th century. Over time, it was destroyed several times, most recently in 1978, either by fire or war.
